I was a Cross Country runner in high school and like many young boys I had a newspaper route. Being of the entrepreneurial spirit I took on additional newspaper routes and spent many hours on my single speed bike over hilly terrain delivering papers.
That combination of running and biking eventually led me to bike racing, then triathlons, then to marathons. I have competed in hundreds of running, biking and triathlon events through the years. I have had some success at races but I have always judged my success by how I felt I performed more than whether or not I took an award.
After being asked by some of my competitors and friends to help them with their training I decided to become a coach and so beginning in 1989 I started the process of obtaining the educational background and coaching certifications from the national governing bodies of sport.
I currently hold these certifications:
RRCA Certified Running Coach
USA Track & Field Level II Certified Coach
USA Cycling Elite Level I Certified Coach
USA Triathlon Certified Coach
I am certified in CPR and First Aid and an Alliance Member of the American College of Sports Medicine.
I was the Track & Field Coach for several years for Blaze Sports, a US Paralympic Organization, working with Paralympic athletes.
Through my coaching I have coached runners to meet Olympic Qualifying standards, Paralympic track & field athletes to qualify and compete in national championships, triathletes and duathletes to compete in national and world championships, including podium finishes at the Hawaii Ironman World Championships and World Championships in Belgium, Australia, New Zealand and Newfoundland.
“My goal as a coach is to help athletes find the best in themselves, and to help them reach new PRs.”
